A Profound Quote!

Monday, August 16th, 2010 by Debra Oakland

“Most people can look back over the years and identify a time and place at which their lives changed significantly. Whether by accident or design, these are the moments when, because of a readiness within us and a collaboration with events occurring around us, we are forced to seriously reappraise ourselves and the conditions under which we live and to make certain choices that will affect the rest of our lives.”  – Frederick F. Flack

What a profound quote…..

People around the world are reappraising their lives.  How have we been living?  What changes can we make in our own lives to leave Mother Earth a better place for future generations?  Towns, villages, communities and cities are going through global change .  What affects one, affects all.  People are concerned for the future of their children, and grandchildren.  As well they should be. Changes are happening rapidly around the planet.  People are speaking up, exposing old corrupt systems that have not been for the highest and greatest good of the people. Grassroots movements are cropping up everywhere.  It’s like the 60′s with more focus and enlightenment. I did so love the 60′s!

Have you noticed how many people are planting their own food?  I know people all over the world are growing organic gardens, looking for cleaner water, choosing to live a more simple, peaceful life.  There is a reconnection with Nature.  She has amazing gifts to share with those who acknowledge her presence with love and respect.  The damage that has been done can be repaired, but it will take many coming together individually and collectively for the beautiful shifts we dream of.  This is a time of significant change for all of us.  It can be by design if we each step in to do our part.

There is a need to look beyond color, nationality and class.  There is a pecking order that does not serve anyone. We are all a part of life, all connected.  A creation of  the Universe….our existence depends on us.  Striving to have a better home, car, job or more money than your neighbor, when coming from a place of ego, is not neighborly!  It is ego driven identification. We are God beings in physical bodies expressing ourselves in every moment through thought, feeling and action.  We are creators who create in every single second.  Let’s be vigilant about what we are creating for ourselves and others.

2010 The Year of “Awakening”

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010 by Debra Oakland

“Self observation brings man to the realization of the necessity of self-change.  And in observing himself a man notices that self-observation itself brings about certain changes in his inner processes. He begins to understand that self-observation is an instrument of self-change, a means of awakening.” – George Gurdjieff.

2010 is the year of “Awakening” to all we truly are. The year to say YES to our own higher power, living inside of us as love, wisdom and power. Millions will wake up this year as if from a deep sleep, to walk in an awakened state. The horizon is absolutely beautiful – breathtaking really. With courage we move forward. Expanding, never contacting. The old energy of contracting is not for you any longer.

Expand, stretch, create and take flight, feeling wings of love supporting you. It is time for those walking the path of grace, to emerge, shedding the old skin of the past. Never look back, for there is nothing there for you. Keep your eyes on the magnificence of who and what you are. Your days, weeks and months will embrace you in the arms of excellence, grace and power.  It is time for unity.

Courage To Follow Your Heart & Intuition – Steve Job

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 by Debra Oakland

My friend Marie Louise Steenbjerg sent me this quote about courage.  How much have we lost in our life that could have been ours yet we passed right by? I would say a great deal.  It takes conviction of purpose, living in courage with passion to follow our life’s path.  No one said it would be easy, that there would not be challenges.  Take any challenge and turn it into an opportunity.  Look behind the challenge to see, hear and feel what is really there for you. There are gifts you could not dream of to be found, when you listen to your inner voice.

Debra Oakland @ Living in Courage Online

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice.
And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.
~~~ Steve Job
Courage & Character = Destiny
Monday, November 3rd, 2008 by Debra Oakland
I have always loved this quote. It talks of character, which I see in Barack Obama. Have a wonderful day and don’t forget to vote tomorrow.  Barack Obama lost his grandmother today. One day before election.
Here at Living in Courage Online we send our heartfelt love and sympathy to the entire Obama family.
Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become actions. Watch your actions, for they become habits. Watch your habits, for they become character. Watch your character, for they become your destiny.
Grace @ Living in Courage by Anne Lamott
I do not understand the mystery of grace–only that it meets us where we are, but does not leave us where it found us.
Happy vs Unhappy – A Wonderful Quote
Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 by Debra Oakland
“I am more and more convinced that our happiness or our unhappiness depends far more on the way we meet the events of life than on the nature of those events themselves.”
Karl Wilhelm Von Humboldt
Courage Turns Challenges Into Opportunities
Thursday, August 21st, 2008 by Debra Oakland
Vince Lombardi (football coach) talks about challenges.  We all have challenges in our lives.  What I see as the difference in the outcome of the challenge is how we handle it going in.  You get to make a choice every time something comes up and seems out of your control.  These challenges build courage and character, teaching us about ourselves, others, and the the world around us.  There is always more than one solution to anything you face, always, even if you don’t see it right away.  Be open to possibilities.  Reach deep inside and use courage to embrace any challenge.  There is not a single person who rose to greatness, that did not have challenges.  Some people let a challenge defeat them, some rise to great heights.  What will you do?
It is time for us all to stand and cheer for the doer, the achiever – the one who recognizes the challenges and does something about it.
Vince Lombardi
Gratitude @ Living In Courage
Wednesday, August 20th, 2008 by Debra Oakland
Gratitude is such a big part of our receiving. This wonderful quote reminded me that when we do our own personal gardening of the soul by pulling weeds of negativity and planting seeds of positivity, we become charming gardeners.  Have a wonderful week and I am grateful to you who visit me here at Living in Courage.
“Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.”
Marcel Proust
Stay Young – General Douglas MacArthur
Monday, July 7th, 2008 by Debra Oakland
My friend John Maguire sent me this quote on staying young. Youth lives inside and never fades in the young at heart. Every cell of our body holds the perfection and memory of youth. Life is a stage for children, where imagination and creativity hold each one enthralled, waiting for the next moment of discovery. There is a small child in each of us that has much to teach.
Youth at any age is a gift to combine perfectly with wisdom that is gained through the passing years. Never ever grow old or out of touch with the perfection and beauty you are. Now come outside and play with all the world as your stage, where you direct, create, design and make choices that bring the majesty of life to your doorstep.
Stay Young:
Youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind. It is a temper of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions, a predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease.
Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years. People grow old by deserting their ideals. Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, doubt, self-distrust, fear and despair, these are the long, long years that bow the head and turn the growing spirit back to dust.
Whether seventy or seventeen there is in every beings heart the love of wonder, the sweet amazement of the stars and the starlight things and thoughts, the undaunted challenge of events and the childlike appetite for what’s next, and the joy and the game of life.
You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt, as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear. So long as your heart receives messages of beauty, cheer, courage, grandeur and power from the earth, from man, and from the infinite, so long you are young.
General Douglas MacArthur
