June 26th, 2008: Slow, but continued recovery
I continue to slowly recover. Chemotherapy has a cumulative effect, so it takes longer to recover the deeper one gets into this. Our current thinking is that more chemotherapy may not be wise; at this point, almost all potential chemotherapies may potentially make me so weak/sick that even if they were to slow the tumor, it would not be clear it would be the right tradeoff. We are currently narrowing down some immunuotherapy-based apporaches that would presumably come with little or no side effects. More news as that proceeds.
At 13 Sean Swarner was diagnosed with advanced stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a type of cancer. After grueling chemo and radiation treatments, he went into remission. By the time he was 15, Sean was diagnosed with Askins Carcinoma. There was a tumor the size of a golf ball on his right lung. This kind of cancer has a 6% survival rate. Sean was the only person in the world ever diagnosed with both types of cancer.
Sean was given 14 days to live. Day 15, 16 and 17 came and he survived, but the treatments were so harsh that he was put in a medical induced coma for 1 year. The doctors were afraid the treatments would kill him before the cancer could. Again he survived and went on to do things that require great courage, like climbing Mt. Everest. For more information visit Sean’s website.
I found a great blog post on a website today titled 10 Reasons Goals Fail. I found # 9 to be something I can personally relate to. There are things in our life we have never attempted, because we thought we may fail. I now have the courage to try new things, as I hope you do. Here is a quote from the blog:
9. People quit to soon. How many things never happen because people quit. All of the successful people have had to persist far far longer than they wanted to. How would you get away without it? You will see tough times, but haven’t you already. Stay glued to information that can help you forge ahead.
Won’t you try something new today? Accelerate Your Success. Even if it is something simple, it will help you break out of old patterns or habits. If we don’t explore all that life has to offer, it can get boring and we get stuck. No one likes to be in a rut. The adventures in life are a lifeline that will pull you up and out of that rut and into a life well lived.
Here is to the adventurous soul in all of us. Life should be fun. Go out and have a great day.

~~ Have you done an examination of where you live your life from?
~~ What is your philosophy?
~~ Do you live a full life, where at the end of that life there are no regrets?
~~ Are you in integrity and honor with yourself?
~~ Are you supporting something in another person that does not come from integrity?
~~ Do you realize that when a person does not act out of honor or integrity, this can set into motion the same energy in another persons life?
~~ Do people add so much baggage to their lives because they are not living in integrity or honor, with not only themselves, but the people around them?
~~ What are the silent forces in your life that impact your reality experience?
~~ Do you stretch you code of ethics where they are not honoring or creating integrity, sending mixed messages that come back as limitation in your life?
~~ What energy and feelings are you setting into motion that comes back to you as something you don’t recognize or want? Are you willing to look at that and change your old habits and patterns that don’t work for you?
~~ How expanded is your consciousness? Are you willing to expand yourself? Is there something in you that supports doubt and fear? Fear of success, fear of failure?
~~ Are you coming from a place you choose? If not, are willing to ask for help? Are you willing to listen?
You get to choose. Ask these 2 most important questions, What and Why. What are you doing. Why are you doing it. Listen and allow a flood of thoughts to bring you awareness.
Grab that torch of Liberty and Authority that comes with your life. Be the Force.
Back in the fall when I testified before Congress, representative Roybal-Allard hosted me,and she was also kind enough to have this very flattering entry put into the congressional record…
Health-wise, I continue to regain strength in the hopes of trying another treatment once I’m strong enough.
Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I’ll try again tomorrow. ~~~ Famous Quote about courage by Mary Anne Radmacher
Do you have the courage to think differently. To believe what you know is right, deep down in the core of your being. The people on this video had courage, each helping change the world in their own way. We don’t all have to change the world, but we can change how we react to everything that comes across our path in life. Each one of us has the capacity to be a catalyst for change in our own lives and also to work for the greater good of humanity. How amazing to come together as one voice in the future, to be able to make profound changes for the positive that affect everyone all around the world. We can do it, together we can make it happen. There is great courage in all of us. Make it a great day, Living in Courage. I will be thinking of you.
Tim Russert, collapsed and died at the NBC News Bureau in Washington D.C. where he was at work. Tim was 58 years old, from Buffalo NY and loved all over the world. Tim Russert was one of the premier political analysts and journalists of his time. You will be greatly missed Tim. We love you.
We talk about courage and the many people who embody this great quality. Tiger Woods represents courage to many throughout the world. At the 108th U.S. Open golf tournament at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California on June 16th, 2008 Rocco Mediate’s final putt failed to win. 358 strokes to 359. Tiger Woods simply refused to lose. He needed to win, his future dependes on it. He played against doctors orders and after 3 knee surgeries, injured and warned he may re-injure his knee. Tiger decided that if he was going to risk the future, ignore the doctors and win. That takes courage. I quote Dan Wetzel of Yahoo Sports, “This was a test of will as much as a golf tournament. What he lost physically, he gained mentally.”
Rocco Mediate said “I thought I had him for awhile. I kept hitting good shot after good shot after good shot and so did he. If anybody in this world goes up against Tiger when he’s at his best, they are going to lose, it’s just that simple. I don’t care who it is.” Rocco also mentioned that where Tiger is his best is mentally.
